On Monday 2-15-2021, we started receiving a light snowfall at approx 8 AM which lasted throughout the day. I did not activate the snowmelt system as the snow was light and I knew I would be activating it later on for a predicted storm. At approx 4:15 PM, I activated the heated driveway to melt the light snow on the concrete slab, and pre heat the slab in preparation for a strong snow storm predicted to start at 7PM. Forecasts called for approx 9" of snow between 7 PM on 2-15-2021 and 1 PM on 2-16-2021. The temperature was closer to 30º, so the snow was extremely wet and heavy.

Heavy snowfall started around 8:30 PM, and continued into the night. As you can see in the time-lapse: The system did well, but had a hard time melting the wet heavy snow. At approximately 2:30 AM, I checked on the system, and noticed it was struggling to keep the driveway clear during this heavy snowfall. I put the system in "override" to bypass the aquastat, and provide continuous heat to the slab. This helps the driveway catch-up, however costs more per hour to run.

At about 7 AM on 2-16-2021 I went out to shovel the sidewalks and apron, and quickly shoveled the driveway to clear it. I didn't technically "need" to shovel it, as I'm sure the snow melt would've caught up within a few hours and melted it off, however it was easy to just push the light slush with one hand to the road. Some might say this was a failure since I did shovel, but compared to my neighbors shoveling and snowplowing approx 9" of snow, using one hand to push a shovel across the driveway to me is still a win!

The total operation time was 24 Hours, 14 minutes
The total heater run time was 18 hours, 12 minutes
The approximate operation cost for this snow event was $17.00
The cost per hour was higher than the normal ($0.67 per hour) due to the system being placed in override for approx. 6 hours.
