Greetings, Beloved Congregation and Friends of Palo Alto Adventist Church,

We look forward to worshiping together this coming Sabbath, as we welcome Elder Bert Williams back to the pulpit. We are grateful for the insights and encouragement he continually brings to our church family.

This Sabbath, he will be sharing a message titled “Chosen”.

Join us with open hearts and minds as we journey together in grace and truth through the Word of God.

1 Peter 1:1-3

Message SummaryIn the first two verses of the first letter of Peter, the writer uses the words "chosen" ("elect" in another translation) and "foreknowledge." From this, and other passages, some have arrived at an understanding known as "double predestination." This means that God chooses, or predestines, the fate of every human being—some for eternal life and the rest for eternal hellfire. Only God has a choice in the matter. What shall we make of this?
Then we find in the third verse the only place in Scripture, other than Jesus' visit with Nicodemus in John 3, where the experience of being "born again" is mentioned. The bonus in this text is that the new birth is linked with the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of our own resurrection.
So, in this sermon, we shall explore these two themes: Predestination and Resurrection.
