Wetting agents are the key to how golf courses and sports fields keep their grass green all the way through the hot summer months. Should you put a wetting agent on your lawn? There are two types of wetting agents when it comes to grass. There are either penetrants or holders. Both have a specific uses when it comes to wetting agents or aka surfactants.

With clay soils, most of the time you are going to want a penetrant because water has a hard time getting through the top soil layer because the soil becomes hydrophobic.

With sandy soils, a holder is most likely going to be what you need because sandy soils cannot hold onto to water very well. Which ultimately will save you money on your water bill.

Tricure is the wetting agent that I apply in this video. It is available in granular, liquid (spray), or pellets.

Overall, wetting agents or surfactants, will ultimately save you water, money, and time. Every professional Superintendent uses a wetting agent in the hot summer months and so should you!
