8 beautiful species of buzzards are found in India

Common Buzzard's plumage is variable but typically has paler breast band and fine dark tail barring mainly seen circling over fields and woodlands. They are found in south west and north west of India.

European Honey Buzzard, also known as the pern or common pern, have highly variable plumage, but note tail pattern: it is pale overall with dark tip, two wide-spaced narrow dark bars on basal half. They are found in the North west of India.

Gray Faced Buzzard has a grey head, breast and neck, white throat, black moustaches and mesial stripes, brown back and upperwings, and brown bars on white underparts and underwings. They are found in the Andaman & Nicobar islands.

Himalayan Buzzard is brown overall with blotchy patterning on the breast, dark upper “trousers,” and dark “elbows” and trailing edge on the underwing found in the Himalayas, north and north east India.

Long Legged Buzzard is a large, long-winged buzzard, have variable plumage with three color morphs. All have obvious dark carpal patches at the wrist of the wing.

Oriental Honey Buzzard, also known as the crested honey buzzard is the city bird of Nagpur. True to its name, this species is a raider of wasp and bee nests.

Upland Buzzard is a large raptor of expansive open spaces such as steppe, pastures, and semi-deserts. Perches visibly on utility poles and snags. Especially abundant near marmot and pika colonies in the Himalayas, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand.

White Eyed Buzzard is a slim brown buzzard with a distinct white iris. Adults have a white throat with a prominent dark stripe, yellow base of the bill, and rufous tail found in Himalayas, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand.
