Hydraulic Pump Repair - Fixing the Noise |

We performed a rotation change, put the pump on the test stand and heard a rattling noise?
That noise should not be there. Our Lifco engineer, with over 25 years experience, hadn't heard anything like this. Our junior mechanic calls in an experienced senior mechanic to take a look. They notice that there is a defect in the rocker cam. Engineering steps in, and sees that the cam is full of gulling and recommends replacement. We replace the rocker cam and proceed with reassembling the pump.

Our next steps are to take the top half of the housing off and inspect the shaft. The shaft is in good condition.
Back onto the test bench to see if the noise is still there.
We got the pump up onto the test bench and ran the tests.

The official word from the senior team was that the pump operates fine, the noise comes and goes without any effect on performance or longevity, we are good to return to the customer.
The pump ran as it should and the sound went away at 1800 RPM.

From the initial test, a thorough inspection by experienced mechanics and engineers, and tested again - we replaced the rocker cam with a minor defect, had it tested and the pump ran well!
