The Cantankerous Spirit of Cranky Kong -- Designing For Maturity

Cranky Kong is one of not just Donkey Kong's most memorable characters, but Nintendo's as a whole. A fourth-wall breaking heckler who verbally shreds the game he's in and all those who play it alike, Cranky's a hysterical personality and a fantastic legacy joke. But his schtick would grow tired if being an old man who hates change was all he had - fortunately, not only is Cranky a deeper meta joke than one might see on the surface, he's always been aging gracefully, maturing into a character who never loses sight of who he is, but remains contemporary and fun through multiple generations!
