The second Holuhraun effusive lava eruption began early yesterday morning, and has produced considerably more lava than the first lava eruption in Holuhraun, Friday morning.

The lava streams are now several kilometres long and the fissure is believed to have been up to 1800 meters long. Lava fountains on the fissure extended up to 100 meters high.

The fissure has been producing about 100 cubic meters of lava every second. No ashfall has been recorded and no explosive activity. The steam from the fissure consists of gases and water vapour.

Volcanic activity has subsided considerably today, and the southern part of the fissure has been quiet for the last hours...
