This piece was written as a parody of Johannes Brahms' "Abendständchen" from the collection "Drei Gesänge, op. 42." I was incredibly inspired by the way Brahms treated two separate choirs as single contrapuntal voices weaving together in imitation, and heard something similar in my head as I read Tsvetaeva's poem for the first time. I have a long way to go, but I'm so grateful for the things I learned from Brahms in the process of composing this piece.
