Trover Saves the Universe tries to sell itself almost entirely on Justin Roiland's star power alone, yet it's only the wholly unsung gameplay sections that offer any entertainment. Amusing as Roiland can be under better circumstances, Trover Saves the Universe just isn't as smartly constructed a comedy as his more well-known work and largely leans on rambling, profanity-filled tirades in the hope that you might giggle if Roiland cusses enough. But the game is saved by its actual gameplay, a mix of light arena combat, even lighter platforming, and some collectathoning that's given some life thanks to the unique restrictions and opportunities presented by VR.
