Depression Explained: A Cognitive Behavioral Model of Depression | Dr. Rami Nader

Описание к видео Depression Explained: A Cognitive Behavioral Model of Depression | Dr. Rami Nader

Depression is a common, but poorly understood mental health condition. In this video, I present a cognitive behavioral therapy model of depression, helping explain the interconnection between behaviors, thoughts and emotions in depression. Depression is more than just a feeling of sadness or feeling down. If impacts a person’s behavior and thoughts in a negative way, which, in turn, causes the person to feel even worse. This creates a negative spiral, whereby behaviors, thoughts and depressed mood work together to make a person feel even worse.

While this may seem like bad news, it actually provides a solution for overcoming depression. Just as behaviors and thoughts can work to make depression worse, if you can make positive changes in what you are doing or how you are thinking, that will have a positive impact on how you feel. While we do not have direct control over how we feel (I cannot tell myself to just “cheer up” when I am feeling depressed), we do have some control over what we do and how we think. Therefore, depression can be overcome with changing negative behaviors and thinking patterns that are maintaining depression.
