Airdate: April 29, 1967

Happy New Year! It’s time to put down the Dr. Pepper and Tootsie Pops (Pop) and get up and dance!

“Sweet Soul Music” was Arthur Conley’s biggest hit. It is at #4 today on the Billboard Hot 100 and will peak at #2 in 2 weeks.

In the 70’s Arthur will move to the Netherlands and change his name to Lee Roberts most likely to escape the persecution and career hindrances he faced because he was gay.

Sadly, Otis Redding (Arthur’s friend and mentor) will die in a plane crash in 7 months on December 10.

The balloons on Dick’s podium are there today because today’s musical guest is the group The Yellow Balloon.

Enjoying some sweet soul music on the dancefloor today are: June Strode on the Hotline, Christy Snider (in the stands at 0:41), Judy & Mark Gordon (0:57), Barbara Prentiss (1:17), Don Sanuskar & Roni Menacker (in front of the riser at 1:46), Mike Kline (2:02), Maureen Cohen (2:08), John Pollard (2:12), Frank Herrera & Pat Moriarty (2:20), Rick Kline (2:21), Jim Miranda & Robin Morris (2:22), Marcel Poitier (2:30), Dan Green (2:32) Buddy Schwimmer & Martha Favela (2:34), Famous Hooks & June Strode (2:45), Marcia Silverman (2:54), Norm Mull (3:04), Judy Michaud and Herb Neil (3:09), Lauren Montgomery (3:27), Maureen Cohen (3:40, both MC’s are dancing today), Kathy Grimwalt (3:41), and on the riser today are Rick Wiser & Olivia “Liver” Favela on the left and Eddie Sanchez on the right. (who else did you spot?)
