Dodonpachi Daioujou DX is a special port of DOJ that was made for flip phones of the 2005 era of all things, which was recently ported to Steam and Switch courtesy of the G-Mode Archives project.
It's extremely dank and weird, it's quite a curiosity. It's obviously nowhere near the quality of the actual arcade game, but for what it is, it's kind of really good??? It's really impressive how much of DOJ they actually managed to recreate on what was basically a calculator.

People seem really angry that this port exists but I'm not sure why. It is pretty funny that this is the only accessible version of DOJ that got a modern port though. Really hope M2 ports DOJ properly at some point in the future.

The game has four difficulties: easy, normal, hard and special.
Hard is basically supposed to be the 1st loop of the arcade version while Special is the 2nd loop.
You fight proper Hibachi on Hard while on Special you fight Double Hibachi from Death Label.
Special looked absolutely impossible at first but I found some tricks and exploits that makes it not that bad.
I'm not sure how they expected you to do this on an actual flip phone though.

The 2nd score extend is at 9 million, which is actually somewhat hard to get in Special.
You need to chain and score at least somewhat to get it.

Some notable differences from arcade in this:
- You get barely any i-frames after a death. Which is a pretty big problem against Hibachi where normally a lot of your damage comes from abusing those.
- It takes longer to switch from shot to laser.
- Laser bombs seem to do way more damage.
- Your speed is slower.
- A lot of attacks that are usually random are static in this.

Compared to the arcade version, this game is a lot shorter as it seems stages were abridged a lot for some reason.
Because the stages are so short, full chains aren't worth nearly as much in this. In fact a lot of your score seems to come from boss hits, so saving your hypers for the bosses seems to generally be the better strategy.

B-S seemed like the best shot for this. The wide shot is very good for making stages not a nightmare and it has a huge stock of insanely powerful bombs.
Unlike arcade, Exy doesn't seem that useful in this because you get less hypers.

For the rest the game basically functions identically to arcade DOJ. It even has the rank and everything.

The game has this weird thing where shot is on V for some reason and the laser won't activate if you're holding shot.
