Plugin-ception: Building extensible gradle plugins by Jacob Ouellette

As Gradle's popularity continues to increase, more and more 3rd party plugins will become available to meet a variety of developer needs. To leverage this rich ecosystem of plugins, developers will build on and extend each other's tools to satisfy their own build requirements.

In this talk, I will discuss my experiences extending capabilities of 3rd party plugins, as well as building a widely-distributed plugin that must play nicely with the rest of the ecosystem. You'll learn how to design and build Gradle plugins that provide maximum extensibility for downstream users, and we'll share tips for effective internal use of 3rd party plugins.

I’ll focus specifically on lessons learned from building our Crashlytics Gradle Plugin, which integrates tightly with the Android Gradle plugin to enable automated crash reporting in Android apps. While this experience is primarly related to Android builds, the themes presented will be general and the talk will be beneficial to any Gradle user that publishes or consumes 3rd party plugins.
