The eight basketball teams of the Belize Elite Basketball League have come together to form a single sports organization. The teams officially announced their collaboration earlier today and said that the move signals a new era for the sport of basketball in Belize. Under the new structure, the team owners constitute the board of directors for the organization. There will also be sub-committees that will focus on specific areas such as specialized subcommittees focusing on Competition, Media, Marketing, and Player Relations. Troy Gabb, one of the team owners explained that the partnership was formed to ensure stability and consistency in the league. He said that the owners looked at leagues around the world to determine a model that would best suit the BEBL’s needs and found that the model of the National Basketball League in the USA was the best fit.

The teams that make up the league are the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, Orange Walk Running Rebels, Belize Hurricanes, Belize City Defenders, Belmopan Red Tigaz, Western Ballaz, Dangriga Dream Ballers, and Punta Gorda Panthers.
