Baat karni mujhe/ Namit Das /Mehdi Hassan/ Cover / Ghazal

Felt like playing the piano and singing after such a longtime. It is in this song that history meets music for a lot of people. Written by Bahadur shah Zafar the last Mughal emperor who died in captivity after the 1857 revolution. He was also a poet. Let me rephrase that I think he was only a poet. Entrusted upon the reins of a dwindling dynasty I am sure he must have been submerged in dejection.

This was composed & sung by Mehdi Hassan in one of his first records. Left an impression on my mind since the time I heard this as a child.

A lot of what I sing also helps me imagine what a sad state of affairs it must have been for the last remaining light of the Moghul dynasty. I keep his melancholy in my heart and sing this bit by bit. Evening encroaches. The song becomes part of a mood. I am left alone with the keys of my piano pressing the same chord, the same sound & the same music.
