PSYCHO (1960) - Modern Trailer

A fan made modern trailer for the Alfred Hitchcock classic, PSYCHO.

The goal with this one was to edit the trailer as if it were being released for the first time. I tried to cut it for an audience who had never seen it before. That meant carefully avoiding one of the biggest shockers in cinema. It meant staying away from, arguably, the most iconic scene ever put to film.

I’ve seen other trailers by fans of the film who feature the shower scene because it’s so recognizable. I wanted to go in the opposite direction and leave it out altogether. My attempt here was editing the trailer so it seemed like Janet Leigh’s character was featured in the film a lot longer than she actually is.

I went with the piece used in the trailer for NOCTURNAL ANIMALS. I felt it fit the tone of the film, affectively conveying the mystery and suspense. And, like PYSCHO, it starts off romantic and builds into something more diabolical. At least, in my humble opinion.

Some of the trailers I try to edit are intimidating because they’re classics and beloved by so many people. This was one of them. Still I’m pretty happy with the way it came out. I’m always open to feedback and suggestions for future projects. If you enjoy it be sure to like, subscribe and share!
