Back in July last year Shaun spoke about the U.S. Navy testing underwater drones in last years navel tech exercise, to watch the video just click on the link that has just popped up. Well, one of the drone companies the Navy were testing is called Aquabotix and it seems that the drones have impressed the US Navy. Now, we all know the risk of sea mines and bombs that lie on the ocean bed left behind from wars, and if you don’t just watch the shark scene from Finding Nemo then you will know all about it.

The team at Aquabotix are now using their existing drones and are creating new robot minesweepers to help with the sea mine problem. But why are they creating these drones for such a small problem? I mean there can’t be that many sea mines left in the ocean right? Well in the Baltic Sea alone there are 80,000 sea mines just sitting there ready to go off… so yeah these bots really are needed. Much like the landmine problems nations around the world still, have from former conflicts our oceans still have unexploded ordnance lost all over the place.
