"PAMS Radio Jingles" "WABC New York Vocal Session Various Series"

"Something of interest to jingle aficionados- a PAMS vocal session in New York for WABC. The interesting thing is that this is taking place in New York; PAMS recorded all their jingles in Dallas using Dallas vocalist. A rule by the performers' union AFTRA prohibited the Dallas singers from being used on the air, so in a rare instance the Dallas tracks were used with New York session singers. In time, PAMS founder Bill Meeks had his singers sign with the union.

Notice how many takes were done just on the first track. Years ago, I couldn't detect any issues or problems with the majority of what I heard and wondered why the singers had to do numerous takes. As someone pointed out on the old Reel Radio site, to the casual listener, most, if not all of these takes will sound fine. However, to a producer with a critical ear, there could have been any number of things that didn't sound just right, so the singers kept plugging away until that producer heard whatever it was he wanted.

Now, listening to this several years later, I can hear a few little things here and there- maybe the voices didn't all mesh together perfectly on a word here or there; perhaps the feeling just didn't seem right on a take or two- there really is nothing so obviously bad in any of these, so again, I think it had more to do with whatever the producer was hearing according to what he personally was looking for.
