Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - Dondozo the Unrivaled Failures

It seems that my success rate for “Dondozo the Unrivaled” has been a lot higher than I expected—over the opening weekend for it, I had two failures, which are the ones featured in this video. That makes the success rate higher than the Pikachu one! Certainly makes for a good source of HP Ups, which is convenient when I’m training Pokémon on the slower side and want points in lastability.

And you know what? You’ll see exactly where we went wrong in both of these.

00:00 features a match where I bring in Big Bubbler, my Araquanid as usual, but my teammates all brought in Grass-types. Lurantis CAN work in a 7-star Dondozo raid, and I have seen it succeed before, albeit Unaware does put a hamper on the stat boosts Lurantis would gain via Contrary from using Leaf Storm and Superpower. (Unaware ignores these stat boosts.) The other two, however, brought in Meowscarada. Has Meowscarada ever worked in a 7-star Tera Raid Battle? I feel it’s too “glass cannon” for these raids, as I couldn’t do healing cheers fast enough to prevent them from fainting, no matter how many Attack drops from Lunge I did. I suppose they didn’t consider that Dondozo has 30 times as much HP AND a raid barrier.

06:52 features another specimen. This time, the load was a Miraidon someone brought who also couldn’t stop fainting. I found it weird because someone else brought in a Miraidon who could take hits much better. Was this more frail Miraidon less than Level 100? There’s also something about people whose Pokémon are always fainting who never do the healing cheers themselves. I’m guessing they’re not too clear on the rules of a Tera Raid Battle, namely the time penalty upon your Pokémon fainting. Doesn’t explain their tendency to Terastallize when their Pokémon is low on HP though. We also have Serperior, who also normally would get by on Sp. Attack boosts from Contrary-modified Leaf Storms, whose trainer is likely unaware of Unaware.

For the record, unless I come across a raid with a shiny one, I will NOT be covering the Gimmighoul Tera Raid Battle event. It only goes up to 5 stars, and they’ll be super-common during that interval.
