Excavations which was conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India found 2 sites known as the Udayagiri 1 & Udayagiri2. Exploring the site one can find several Stupas, monasteries and Sculptures of Buddha lying in open. A huge brick stupa called as the Mahastupa housing a large statue of Buddha is worth watching.
Walking past the scattered ruins one can find a circular space, which is known as the Chaitya Griha where several smaller stupas can be found. Also a stepped stone well with epigraphic inscriptions has also been discovered in Udayagiri. Apart from the glorifying history of Buddhism, the location of Udayagiri is blessed by the mother nature with scenic beauty. The tall hills & the lush greenery carpeting the slopes of the hills adds an unique flavor of peace & tranquility in visitors.
