This video is the first week of a 6 week discussion around experimental filmmaking—cinema beyond narrative and rules. There will be a number of tips for your own experimental filmmaking
It highlights the use of materials like time manipulation, layering, and sound/music , showing how films can become pure encounters.

Over 6 weeks I’m going to dig into some aspects of experimental filmmaking. Filmmaking is filmmaking and the tools and techniques are the same for experimental filmmaking as any other, however it is the way that a filmmaker approaches making experimental film that makes it different, unique. Also, in my opinion, experimental filmmaking seems more inclusive.
You don’t have to know all the industry ‘know-hows’, to make something experimental, or artistic, as it is all about the perception of the filmmaker. Experimental film allows pure expression without a need for narrative, or character, it can simply be colour and shape and movement.
I love it and I hope that I can bring some of my joy for this type of filmmaking to you.
