Utsuho Reiuji (nicknamed Okuu by her fans and Zun alike ^_^) is the Final boss of the game Subterranean Animism, the 11th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku shooters that is not like other bullet hells given the focus on characters. For more info, check the wiki at the bottom of the description.

What can I say about Utsuho? She's awesome. Like other SA characters, I originally disliked her, but grew on me the more I played SA and read doujins. Still not a fan of her fight, though I do recognize the epicness behind it. NOTE: Even though her official nickname is Okuu, I like to call her real name simply because Utsuho sounds more formidable and majestic than Okuu.

Utsuho is normally depicted as an idiot in fanwork due to a quote from ZUN which I based the first line in this description. Parallel to Cirno who is called ⑨, Utsuho is called ⑥. As an Utsuho fan, I recognize the existence of this belief but decide to completely ignore it (the same goes with Cirno). As a matter of fact, my favorite interpretation of Utsuho in a doujin so far is in "Listening to Each Others Hearts Voice" by Hero Bear, [SKIP TO THE END OF THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILER XD] a short doujin where Utsuho along with Orin are seeking to make Koishi happy by making a bird she found sing. How do they make this happen? They trick her (couldn't trick Satori though, but she's frikkin' Satori, so is okay). Goes to show how intelligent she can be.

Same goes for Cirno. Back to Okuu. She has one of my favorite character designs in the series (Her cape thingy reminds me of Count Bleck O.o). I guess I don't really dig the lolita style, probably why her, Aya, and Reisen are some of my fav characters.

As for the battle itself, a note: This is not my best playthrough but there is nothing I can do about it. This was record at the instant while I was playing. Why? SA has a glitch in its replays where whenever you play a replay against Utsuho, your character will freak out and kill herself. Goes to show how scary she is. Normally this is bypassed easily by starting the replay on Orin's stage, but after tweaking with the configuration of SA, this stopped working for me, so I had to play a practice. This is the reason why I had some many lives and full power. No worry though, I normally have two lives for Utsuho, gain one life during the fight and get there with full power, so I barely beat her with no extra lives left.

The fact that her power is manipulation of nuclear fusion and that she, along with Orin, are servant to Satori speak a lot of their power. I find her the second hardest final boss in the series (Yuyuko wins). No worry, Remilia (my fav. char. In the series) comes in a close third place. Like I mentioned in Flandre's vid, bosses tend to show their non-danmaku ability in their bullet hells. Utsuho is not the exception (Flandre is). ALL of her attacks revolve around the idea of the sun, the ultimate source of nuclear fusion. All of her spells are gargantuan in their size. Is fun I guess, just too hard for my personal taste.
