The Cincinnati Bengals Are EXACTLY What The NFL Feared...

The Cincinnati Bengals are flying so far under the radar and I don't think I've even heard the national media mention them more than a couple of time over the past months, and I think when healthy in terms of talent, this is a top 7 to top 5 roster in the NFL.

Alright so now that I talked about the good, now I wanna talk about the bad because Joe Burrow isn't perfect, and neither are the bengals as a whole. And sometimes when burrow does throw interceptions, they are really bad, but he's gotten a lot better at limited them every year in his career. But right here against the ravens, 3 point game out of halftime, this is one of those plays that completely changes the game, and I'm not sure if Joe doesn't didn't see stone or what happened, because this was an easy pick throwing into a sea of white. This one right here is not burrows fault at all, it is just a result of the lack of blindside protection on this play, but the Steelers get to him and force a fumble which falls right into the hands of cam Heyward to make it an interception instead. So some of the bad Joe burrow stats can be a bit mislead. Anyways moving on, now I wanna talk about some of the position players around Joe Burrow as we head into 2024 on the depth chart. So they got Jamar Chase, tee Higgins and Jermaine Burton out wide with Mike Gesicki at tight end, and then at running back it where things get interesting with Joe Mixon now being on the Texans, they will have Zack moss from the Bills and Chase brown in the backfield, last season he has 794 yards and for his career he has just over 2000 with 14 touchdowns, but as the main guy on this team I expect those numbers to go up, but the bengals are definitely gonna be a pass heavy team. As for the offensive line, this has been a topic of discussion for a while with this team. We all knew how horrible they were a few years ago, but they've slowly started to improve, but where are they now as we head into the start of the 2024 season? Well… according to PFF they are ranked 21st in the league, so there still is much to be desired out of this group. But they did make some moves over the offseason, they added Amarius Mims and Trent Brown after losing Jonah Williams. They kinda double-dipped at offensive tackle this offseason, signing Trent Brown in free agency and selecting Georgia's Amarius Mims in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft," reporters wrote. "But the unit also needs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. to get back to his old form. The former Chiefs and Ravens lineman earned a career-low 66.1 PFF grade in 2023 which ranked just 45th among offensive tackles." As for the defense, this is the unit that will be the most critical part of the bengals season and honestly could make or break it. Dating back to the Marvin Lewis era, the Bengals have held a significant focus on their defensive backs. From a long stretch where it seemed that the team selected a corner with every other first round pick in the late 2000s to early 2010s, this team has placed a serious emphasis on the secondary. While this team has had unprecedented success during the first few years of head coach Zac Taylor, that appears to be one of the biggest shifts during his tenure. While most of those draft picks under Lewis never seemed to work out, the focus on the secondary was a decision that certainly fits with the current NFL model. After all, with the rapid progression of the passing game at the professional level, the ability to defend the pass is arguably the most significant part of a defense. During Taylor’s tenure, the team has suffered severe attrition and will be starting one of the least experienced pairs of cornerbacks that this team has started in decades. While 2022 second round pick Cam Taylor-Britt and 2023 second round pick D.J. Turner have shown signs of excellence, there have also been some serious red flags concerning their consistency. Turner started off last season looking like a Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate before his analytical numbers torpedoed to remarkable lows during the second half of last season while Taylor-Britt has shown signs of injury woes.
