Join me as we walk the old line of the lichfield canal formerly known as the Wirley and Essington Canal. We start at Gallows wharf and the London Road Bridge and work our way up through the lock towards the St Johns Section. Here we split off and follow the old line as it goes through locks and bridges, under roads and railways and trace what exists of the former line. This won't be restored as new sections are planned through the new housing developments to the South of the City to take the route back to Fosseway heath and the nature reserves and wetlands. We take a look ago the Sandfields pumping station and the old railway beside it
