The climate crisis, weapons of mass destruction, the threat of malevolent artificial intelligence, poverty, domestic violence, distribution of food -- any of these could be the correct answer to the question: what's the greatest challenge facing humanity?

But the real challenge is the absence of a grand story, or metanarrative, that unites all of us to take on all of these challenges.

Every religion, Christianity included, has offered some kind of metanarrative. In our current secular society, a metanarrative that justifies destruction is take root.

Another story exists, though. It takes into account the sacredness of all creation, it accounts for the near-miraculous way we all came into being. It unites us under the banner of creating the circumstances in which new life can flourish.
