Just a couple words of caution. This is experience talking. I would be careful with the steel wool on Kato track not to mess with what makes Kato track better conductive. Also using the glue and water solution is fine as long as you do not apply it to the turn outs. You have to seal the edge of the turnouts first. I used hot glue or the danger of seeping under the track and into the turnout which is bad news. I only ballasted up to the edge of the roadbed.
