The proper folding of a habit's cornet

Описание к видео The proper folding of a habit's cornet

This is my Auntie Margaret aka Sister Margaret Giroux.
When Sister Margaret joined the Congregation of Notre Dame in the 1920s she wore a habit. The congregation relaxed the dress code in the 1970's and habits are no longer worn by the sisters. There are variations in styles of both habits and cornets. A habit is the complete dress and the cornet is the white piece that goes around the nun's face. In this video Sister Margaret demonstrates how to fold a cornet in the traditional style of the Congregation of Notre Dame. In the demonstration a smaller piece of white paper is used. The sisters would receive 4 or 5 strips of white, heavily starched linen per month. A cornet would be worn for about a week and then a new cornet would be folded. Quite often two cornets would be prepared, one for immediate wear and one for emergency back-up. Sister Mary Jane Hebert, also featured in the video, told me they would inevitably serve spaghetti on the day they made their new cornets, a tricky proposition!
