Focus is something we all struggle with. It’s almost pointless knowing how to study if we can’t get ourselves to focus long enough to actually do it. On top of this, our demand on focus ebbs and flows as exam season approaches. Inevitably, we need to put in longer hours in the run up to exams than at the beginning of the year. So how do we actually get ourselves to focus so that we can study effectively for longer? Well, I scrutinised the study routine I designed for my second year exams that allowed me to study effectively for 12 hours a day, and distilled out the 5 principles behind its success. These are (1)forecasting, (2)operational shifting, (3)purposeful breaks, (4)technology limitation and finally, (5)contact minimisation. The first 4 I stand by to this day, but I have changed my mind about contact minimisation and now want to reframe it as productive contact. These principles are the foundation of my 12 hour study routine, that allowed me to focus without burn-out. And importantly, it enabled me to study effectively and get meaningful results, allowing me to perform the best I had done during my 6 years in Cambridge. Please do not take this video to mean, you have to study for 12 hours a day for success, instead use these principles to design your own effective study routine that’s going to help you focus for longer. #focus #study #tips #revision #exams
