Animated prism map that shows outcome of the 2017 Virginia gubernatorial election with blue and red color shading to indicate the margin of outcome (see key) and height to show the population in each voting district (county or independent city). Population ranges from Highland County (2,300) to Fairfax County (1,137,290). The animation first colors the state by district from red to blue (D-R)/(D+R) and then adds population (not population density) from low to high. This map is not intended to be a comment on the outcome of the election (I am much more of a map geek than a politics geek); rather, is a map that I was interested in seeing. The Virginia county/city map was built in Cinema 4D by extruding splines from exported from ArcMap and the height and color changes were added in Unity3D and “filmed” at runtime.
