What is a geometric plane?
A plane has length and width. So the plane has two dimensions. A plane is a flat surface that extends infinitely in two directions. Therefore we can not measure its length and width.When we draw on a flat surface we are drawing something on a plane.
What is the XY plane?
A plane is divided into four parts due to the horizontal line and vertical line in a given plane. The horizontal line is called the x-axis and the vertical line is called the y-axis of the plane. So the plane is called XY - plane.
What is the origin of the plane?
The point of intersection of the x-axis and y-axis is called the origin of the given XY-plane. Coordinates of origin are (0,0).
Nature of coordinates of points in different quadrants :
First quadrant: In the first quadrant x and y coordinates of all points are positive.
Second quadrant: In the second quadrant x coordinate is negative and the y coordinate is positive of all points.
Third quadrant: In the third quadrant x and y coordinates of all points are negative.
Fourth quadrant: In the Fourth quadrant x coordinate is positive and the y coordinate is negative of all points.
y coordinate of every point on the x-axis is zero.
x coordinate of every point on the y-axis is zero.
