Karen Lawson, Coalition Director and founder of the nonprofit, non-partisan Public School Defenders Hub coalition is based in California. The coalition consists of 50+ state level, regional, and local organizations committed to defending public education. The Hub focuses on public participation accountable system for state agencies to track and respond to reports of legal non-compliance. Together with ACLU, Karen and the team co-authored an CA Education Complaint Guide tool and provides offers free, lawyer-developed California school board observers training on a quarterly schedule.

Karen’s education background is communications, and she retired from a career in project management and training in the health care sector. She is mom to two adult sons, and grandparent of a national roller-skating champion. Karen resides in the north Orange County city of Yorba Linda.
