I don’t want to be another person who’s aware of inappropriate behavior, knowing it’s wrong, and still do nothing except shake my head in disapproval and move on.

In this video, I briefly touch on some events that have transpired relating to The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) over the past 8 days.

In addition to sexism and fat phobia displayed by the social media pages linked through the ISSN website, the feeds have been included personal, bigoted views posted by Dr. Jose Antonio that are not reflective of ISSN alleged values.

Sincerely, I was hoping that it would not come to this. I made numerous attempts to make it clear privately to ISSN leadership over the past week that posting a diversity statement on the website was not enough. It’s felt performative; this is not true allyship.

What’s happened instead is what appears to be a quiet clean-up job. But many individuals, including members like myself and other onlookers who have been watching these events unfold, have been looking to ISSN leadership to address what’s happened head on. We want to know where you stand.

“The ISSN does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, sex, gender expression, age, national origin/ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.”

Do you stand by this statement, even when it’s being violated by individuals at the top of your own organization?

None of this had to be this way. All of this could have been a near non-issue, and I would have gained tremendous respect for the ISSN had they responded to this directly and swiftly. But we’ve waited and waited with little to nothing changed.

I expected more.

ISSN, your silence has been so, so loud.

And because you have been quiet, I am making noise.
