Arashiyama is extremely famous as a national place of scenic beauty and it is one of the most crowded sightseeing spots in Kyoto.
Various types of cherry blossoms such as somei-yoshino, mountain cherry, double cherry, and weeping cherry proudly bloom. Many tourists from all over Japan and the world visit during flowering period.
It is said that cherry blossoms in Arashiyama have been transplanted from Yoshino in Nara, and today about 1500 cherry blossoms proudly bloom around Togetsukyo Bridge.
Togetsukyo Bridge (Moon Crossing Bridge) was named by Emperor Kameyama when he saw a moon move above the bridge, and said “It looks as if the clear moon were walking over the bridge”.
Greens of mountains and faint pinks of fully bloomed cherry blossoms in the backdrop of Togetsukyo Bridge over Katsura River show the beauty of colors and create a wonderful scenery.
When it is raining, Arashiyama will let you feel the typical elegant atmosphere of Kyoto.
