Restored 1978 Meccano Steam Engine (MEC1/SP3)

This was my father's old Meccano steam engine from 1978! However, it needed some TLC before I could run it.



The boiler of the steam engine broke off and needed to be riveted back in, and the steam pipe needed to be soldered in place. The piston was also stuck in place. Regarding decoration, the chrome casing for the boiler was rusted over along with various other parts. Obviously, the engine was non-functional. After the restoration, the engine runs like a beaute!


This engine was actually the original Meccano steam engine or MEC1. However after it was discontinued, MAMOD slightly modified it and was sold under the name SP3.

Additional note: The fuel tray in this video is not original. This engine was bought off the shelf and came without it. My father had to make his own fuel tray.
