Fox deems the LRM strategy a failure. The allies just don't use it effectively enough even with Artemis IV and support from TAG and a NARC beacon... disappointing.

That means redesigns! Redesigns to adapt to the battlefields of the future! And that means Zombie mechs! Zombie Mechs are BattleMech chasis that are both heavily armored and also contain most of their weapon hardpoints in the torso rather than the arms, especially if the largest hardpoints are in the torso. They also often do not use ammunition based weapons but not always.

Fox sends the new designs out on a contract for House Liao, searching for a retired Mechwarrior's son, Shengzeng.
