Chelsea Transfer News: Koulibaly to Chelsea | What will he bring?

In this video, Tyrone discusses Chelsea's newest transfer addition to their 2022/23 squad, Kalidou Koulibaly. Kalidou Koulibaly is the 2nd addition of 6 promised signings for Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea, as Raheem Sterling was confirmed on Wednesday July 13,2022 in Los Angeles, and unveiled in the LA Dodgers Stadium.

Chelsea completed Kalidou Koulibaly’s £34m transfer from Napoli as Thomas Tuchel begins Chelsea’s defensive rebuild. Koulibaly spent eight great seasons at Napoli and was supposed to be promoted as the captain of the Italian club. But after playing over 300 matches for them, he chose to embark on a new adventure that will unite him with his former Napoli teammate Jorginho and current Senegal teammate Edouard Mendy.

Koulibaly is a vastly experienced CB in the mold of Virgil Van Dijk and Antonio Rudiger, the best CBs in the world. What does he bring to Chelsea FC?

Koulibaly brings a solid and aggressive physical presence at the back and will directly replace Rudiger. He has excellent anticipation and aerial prowess and is an expert in tackling and making interceptions.
As mentioned before, Koulibaly’s experience playing with Jorginho and Mendy will make him instantly comfortable on and off-field. We can expect Koulibaly to perform great right from the beginning.

While playing under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, he transformed into a ball-playing CB, which will suit Tuchel’s tactics of playing from the back.
He’s versatile. He can play in a three-man or four-man defence and the DM role.
He captained Senegal to their first AFCON victory and FIFA WC qualification earlier this year. One can claim that he will be a commanding presence at the back. Alongside Thiago Silva, Chelsea has an enormously experienced defence. This will also raise Mendy’s confidence.
