Lifter Failure after run-in on VC Valiant Cop Car

Описание к видео Lifter Failure after run-in on VC Valiant Cop Car

This VC Valiant ex Cop car came in for a new motor, he just wanted to freshen up the 318 small block motor for a good running motor in time for his Daughters wedding.
As usual we line honed and decked the block, new pistons, rods, cam, lifters, etc… all internally balanced. Stock heads were rebuilt and she was together and in the engine bay in record time.
All was going well as we ran in the cam and she was running nice and smoothly, then as we were street tuning the carburettor, only a few km’s into the initial drive she began to tick. Never a good sign especially when the tick doesn’t settle down and only gets louder. So back to the shop and off with the rocker covers where we discovered that the lifters had failed just after run in.
Out with the cam and lifters and off to the machine shop to have them tested and sure enough the lifters were not hardened enough. We believe Ikea spoons come in at 30, one of these lifters came in at just under 40. Pretty bad when they should be at least 53 - 58.
A change of cam and lifters to an Australian manufacturer, was not willing to risk another dud with such a tight timeframe and she’s ready just in the nick of time.
