Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will resume direct flights to the United Kingdom on October 25, beginning with a nonstop service between Islamabad and Manchester. The announcement, made on October 4, marks PIA’s “historic return” to British skies after more than four years of suspension.

The development follows approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, which granted PIA a Foreign Aircraft Operating Permit, as well as Third Country Operator clearance. According to the Pakistan High Commission in London, services to Birmingham and London are expected to resume in later phases.

The UK had removed Pakistan from its Air Safety List in July 2025, citing improved aviation security standards at Islamabad International Airport. PIA flights to Europe, the UK, and the U.S. had been suspended in June 2020 following a Karachi plane crash and revelations of questionable pilot licences. The European ban was lifted in November 2024, paving the way for today’s announcement.
