The Utrecht Map Library houses about 170,000 maps and atlases published after 1850, and approximately 6,000 older cartographic documents are part of their Special Collections. This makes it one of the Netherlands' largest collections of analogue map material.

Their collection includes maps and atlases of all areas in the world at several scale levels. The focus is on material about Dutch regions and the European countries surrounding the Netherlands. Five maps and atlases are considered masterpieces and are kept in the Treasury of Special Collections.
