In the brand new episode of Weekend Wankshop, ol' Uncle Ben here is gonna learn you how to play the sick Eb lydian dominant licks from my solo in my new song Cloud!!! I'm really excited about how this song turned out, and its gotten a great response form you Suckamaniacs so far. Definitely gonna be getting some more original music from me on the regular!
I recorded this song with my amazing Aristides 070, loaded with the Instrumental Pickups Decomp HS set. Crushing!!! But you don't need a 7 string to play this lead, so don't sweat it if you've got a 6.
A lot of these licks are reminiscent of Joe Satriani or Steve Vai, my two biggest lead guitar influences! Its got some sexy bends and some slippery legato slurs that are certain to please.
The lydian dominant scale is one of my favorite sounds! I think i first got a taste of it when i heard Treacherous Cretins by Frank Zappa. You can think of it as a lydian scale with a b7.... or a major scale with a #4 and b7.... or a mixolydian scale with a #4.... or as one of the modes of melodic minor... whatever floats your boat! Sounds amazing over major chords, dominant chords, M#11 chords, all kinds of stuff.
