Misty by Erroll Garner

Описание к видео Misty by Erroll Garner

Wikipedia says in 1954, Erroll Garner was inspired to write "Misty" on a flight from San Francisco to Chicago when it passed through a thunderstorm. As the plane descended into O'Hare, Garner looked through the window to see a rainbow glowing through a haze, and was moved to begin composing "Misty" right on the spot. He struck imaginary piano keys on his knees and hummed the melody imagined. And there is was - Misty! Garner had a remarkable ear, improvisation was one of his greatest skills. And probably because he was so gifted and self-taught, he never felt the need to learn to read music. When he was confronted with questions on this seeming deficiency, he quickly responded "my audiences don't come to see me read music, they come to enjoy with their ears."

The lyrics for Misty were added in 1957 by the famous lyricist, Johnny Burke. Burke was initially reluctant to create lyrics for the tune, but was persuaded to do so at the insistence of his band mate, pianist Herb Mesick. It was said that Mesick played the tune every time Burke came into the room, until Burke said: "Alright, give me the damn music, and I'll do it." Burke wrote the lyrics in two to three hours. In 1959, Johnny Mathis recorded Misty and it became the signature song of a generation. "Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree..."

This is my arrangement in the key of Eb. Not much of an arrangement actually as I read it right off of the sheet music and it comes out sounding like this. Guitar is a Ramirez 1A, mic is DPA4099. "Walk my way, And a thousand violins begin to play, Or it might be the sound of your hello, It's that music I hear, I get misty the moment you're near."
