Vintage Hand Drill Restoration - 4K

This is my restoration of an old shoulder brace hand drill.

I couldn’t even turn it at the beginning as the gears were completely clogged up with years of dirt.

It was missing a fixing screw for the handle assembly to connect to the body. This was a simple fix.

The small handle near the drill end was also missing. To match the two handles, I replaced both with new ‘file handles’. They were modified, sanded, and soaked in linseed oil.

Also missing, were the small springs to connect together the adjustable drill bit holders. I was pleased when I realised that I could use slightly modified ‘click pen’ springs.

The wooden handle pin broke as I tried to undo it. I managed to source a long bolt that I modified to fit through the oblong hole.

Overall, quite a few processes were used in this restoration, and I'm content with the end result.
