FOOD SAFETY DAY
Today is World Food Safety Day! Food safety is all about recognising and preventing different food borne risks, like contamination from viruses, bacteria, or parasites, which is a common problem here and around the world. See, it's estimated over 4 million Aussies get hit with food poisoning every year. In fact, there are over 200 diseases that can be caused by eating contaminated food. And this year's food safety theme is reminding everyone from food producers to consumers to stay up to speed on how to handle, prepare, transport, and store food in a way that keeps us safe. Which, for us at home includes washing your hands properly before touching food, storing food properly like in the fridge where you should keep raw meat away from cooked food, and fruit and veggies, using different chopping boards for raw meat and keeping everything clean. Like counter tops, equipment, and utensils. Oh yeah, and always check your use-by dates, too!

NSW FLOOD
Parts of New South Wales are on flood alert with heavy rainfall drenching the state. The Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions south of Sydney had around 330 millimetres of rain dumped on them in just a couple of days, causing flash flooding, school closures, evacuation alerts, and more than 440 calls for help and 60 SES rescues. Thankfully, the Bureau of Meteorology says things should start to dry out with better weather forecast for this weekend.

WOMEN'S STATE OF ORIGIN
Queensland has another victory to brag about, this time in the Women's State of Origin. Despite wet weather drenching the McDonald Jones stadium in Newcastle, game 2 of the women's state of origin was a thriller. With the sky blues and the maroons neck and neck until the dying minutes when Queensland's Lauren Brown booted a 69-minute field goal to tip the maroons to a 11-10 victory! The win levels the series one all, with game 3 to decide the ultimate winner later this month.

DRONE RECORD
First up, to Mount Everest where this drone has pulled off a world first. Flying 3 oxygen bottles and some other bits and pieces all the way from Base Camp, up to Camp 1. The drone had to prove itself, flying over rough terrain and through challenging conditions at high altitudes. The folks behind it hope drone deliveries like this could become a whole lot more common in the future.

WEIRD ICE CREAM
Now who's up for a spot of ice cream? Uh, so there's baked beans, soy sauce, olive, any of these take your fancy? Maybe not at first, but these weird flavours have proved quite popular with the British public at a pop up store in London.

PIZZA TOURNAMENT
And finally, to the World Pizza Tournament in Argentina. Where 174 contestants from all over the world have come to show off their pizza-making skills. Some choosing to go blindfolded. Others choosing to set their pizza on fire. Hey, if it works, it works. The judges look impressed.
