This is a demonstration of my 405 line standards converter in use. I designed the unit myself in early 2004 using standard 'off the shelf' 74HC components. I did this in response to articles in 405 alive that implied it could not be done. From sketching the basic design, the prototype was operational in a few days. Final tweaking over the next few weeks resulted in a line store converter with 2:1 interpolation that gives excellent pictures. The patterning and flicker are a result of the cheap digital camera used to film this video. Note that this design was primarily to challenge the idea that a standards converter couldn't be built with off the shelf components (mainly cmos/ttl) and I stuck to this limitation in order to challenge myself. If I was to design a 405 line standards converter using best practice, I would build a frame store converter, probably using FPGA.
