🐟 Our 1st glimmer of good news comes from @alexmorton4salmon :⁣
“The huge @cermaqcanada #salmonfarm in Wells Pass was loaded on a barge & carried away last week! Huge kudos to Chief Charlie Williams, Gwawaenuk First Nation. Now the salmon can return to the Embly and other rivers. Thank you Charlie for this gift of life.” ⁣

🌊 Washington is leading the way for electric boats in the US. The WA State Ferries system is the largest consumer of fuel in the the Salish Sea & an ideal system for electrification to reduce fuel spills & noise pollution. The 1st project is to build new hybrid-electric vessels. The 2nd project transforms 4 of the state's largest ships into hybrid vessels. 95% of the time the ferries will be running in battery-electric mode, meaning no diesel exhaust, no spills & no rumbling noises of the engine. Electrifying boating creates less noise, while promoting clean water and air. ⁣

🌧 Heavy PNW rainfall, cool temperatures & slow snowmelt helps salmon and marine life thrive. Cowichan watershed biologists haven’t seen water levels this high in 30 years. Over the last 20 years low spring flows have been problematic for salmon, but with such abundance this year, salmon can swim up river to the lake, spend the summer there in cool waters & then swim back down into the river & spawn in the fall. Higher water levels also protect marine life from predators, maintain clean, cool waters and benefit the whole ecosystem. ⁣
