2015-12-07: Fargo Flying Saucer Outshines Val Johnson's Ball of '79

This is a fair-use clip from Season 2 Episode 9 of Fargo titled The Castle. Earlier episodes in this season dropped numerous vague or subtle references to UFOs.

Remember that The Gorman Dogfight encounter of 1 October 1948 took place in the skies over Fargo, North Dakota. George F. Gorman was a P-51 pilot with the North Dakota Air National Guard.

Blue Book head Captain Edward J. Ruppelt wrote in his bestselling and influential The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects that the Gorman Dogfight was one of three "classic" UFO incidents in 1948 that "proved to [Air Force] intelligence specialists that UFOs were real." The two others were the Chiles-Whitted Encounter and the Mantell UFO Incident.

Later, in 1949, the U.S. Air Force proclaimed that Gorman's encounter over Fargo was merely with a lighted weather balloon.

Writer Noah Hawley also referenced the Ball of Light encounter on 27 August 1979 with Minnesota Deputy Sheriff Val Johnson.
