Ste. Genevieve, MO: The oldest town west of the Mississippi River in Missouri

Ste. Genevieve, MO was founded in 1735 by French Canadian colonists and settlers from east of the river, it was the first organized European settlement west of the Mississippi River in present-day Missouri. Today, it is home to Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park.

The city is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, approximately 60 miles (97 km) south of St. Louis. The town is known for its French colonial architecture, which is reflected in its many historic buildings, including the Old Cathedral, the Old Courthouse, and the Julien Dubuque House. Ste. Genevieve is also home to a number of museums, including the Ste. Genevieve Museum, the Missouri Rural Life Museum, and the American Printing House for the Blind.
