Time to get into compression and our first compressor. To begin we’ll keep it very simple. In this video we’ll use our compressor to act as a “faux” peak limiter. As you’ll hear and see this is somewhat possible in theory but will sound very different to the LoudMax. Normally you’d expect the compressor to “handle the transient” but it may not do so as transparently as you’d like (thus why you might choose the peak limiter). You can only push the ratio so high and the attack so fast on a compressor as compared to a peak limiter. Remember the peak limiter is designed to really clamp down hard on peaks and do so as transparently as possible. This would be another great opportunity to do an audio comparison on your own.
