In the A Song of Ice and Fire Books and Game of Thrones TV Show, Beric Dondarrion faces death and is revived 6 times through the power of R'hllor the lord of light. While the show doesn't go to in-depth with this mysterious and magical element the books are completely different. Each resurection takes a tole phyically and mental on Beric, his body carries the mortal wounds of each death and his mind and soul are fragmented each time he dies. Memories, motivations and his personality are chipped away peice by piece, until Beric is left as a shell of his former self.
