Clearing of London slums and solving poverty problem, St. Pancras. Duchess of York (later Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mother) opens new block of flats for low income families.



M/S of Duchess arriving by car, she is welcomed by a Catholic priest. Crowds cheer and wave streamers. The Duchess waves back as she enters the new flats.



Panning shot of inner-courtyard of flats. It has been decorated with bunting and the Duchess stands with other dignitaries on a raised platform. She makes a speech declaring the St. Joseph flats and Father Jellicoe Hall open.



Panning shot crowds of people watching ceremony from flats' fire escape stairs. They are residents of new block. There are lots of children, they all look very poor.



The Duchess unfurls a flag - representing the official opening. The Duchess then accepts donations of money from dignitaries on behalf of trust which built flats.
